Running- Half Marathon Training.

Let me start by saying: I have never considered myself a runner, ever.
This summer I started running as a stress reliever, and every single day I find myself actually looking forward to running.

It clears my head,
it makes me proud of myself when I finish and have accomplished something.
Especially because I keep proving to myself that I'm better than I thought I was,
I'm capable of more than I have given myself credit for.

It's helped a lot with all of my anxiety with class too.
I tend to freak out a lot over school, the first week of summer school I felt so overwhelmed during the lectures that I literally came close to having panic attacks. I told my mom I  have NEVER felt so crazy, I was having to concentrate on breathing... it was just the definition of ridiculous. Running has kind of given me a way to just let everything go, and feel good about myself.

SO with that being said, Jasmine and myself  have decided to start training for a Half Marathon.
I've always wished I could complete something like that, but it never seemed possible to me. Well, I've decided it's time to push myself to do it. There's no better time than the present, right?

We're registering for the Run Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Savannah on November 3rd. With the amount of time between then and now, I definitely think it's doable. If you follow me on pinterest, you've probably seen a ton of my pins about training and stuff... but It's hard to find a good training plan.

So that's where you guys come in. I know several of you are avid runners, and many of you have even completed half marathons. What training plans did you use? Did you do a special meal plan? Any other tips you can share with me would be so much appreciated!

I'm so excited to commit to something like this, last year I would have never dreamed I'd be doing it, and I feel like that's exactly why I need to prove to myself that I can! :)

Unfortunately I haven't done a half yet, so I have no advice, but this is another post that I'll be stalking to see what other people say! Good luck :)

I'm excited for you! I wish I could offer you some tips and tricks, but running is on the very bottom of my talents list, haha.

YAY for you!

I've run a 1/2 and it was AWESOME! I did the first ever Athens 1/2. You are so smart to start early! I started around this time too and it was in late October.

Couple things:

Don't run everyday. Give yourself some breaks.

Find a day that's good to do your long runs...I did Sundays because I had more time to allot for them.

Get GOOD socks...I felt like they were more important than shoes. You want the wicking kind...don't think I'm spelling that right.

I did a combination of plans...I googled a couple and then made my own. I can email you mine if you want...just let me know. hammarlove@google.com

You will do great!I'm so excited for you!

Yay! You will love it! For my first half, I did one in November too and started training around this time so you will be fine! I used a training plan out of Runner's World magazine! It was super easy to follow and I didn't feel overwhelmed. I can send it to you if you want!
I didn't really pick up a special meal plan, just tried to drink more water! It helped to stay hydrated when I was doing my longer training runs.
I would also recommend trying energy gels/shot blocks. I think Gatorade might have their own line of them. I used them throughout the race and they seemed to help! You could try using them on a long training run to see if they help! I would eat them and then follow with lots of water!

Good luck!! :)

I want to run a half too!! Mostly just so I can make myself stay on a training plan. When I was training for my 5k I never once skipped a run. So obviously I need to be on a plan to keep it up. Let me know which running plan you decide to try out!! Please! :)

And good luck! I love all of our motivational pins

I'm training for a half right now too. So glad you're committing to one, you'll love it!!

Right now, I'm following this plan: http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51312/Half-Marathon-Novice-2-Training-Program. It's super easy to follow and flexible. You can move your long runs to whatever day works out best for you. :)

There's another beginner one on there too thats slower paced. You definitely have enough time to devote to training!

I ran my first 1/2 2 years ago.

I followed this training website & it was pretty helpful considering I didn't stop to walk at all during it.

Get good socks!! Make sure your shoes are good, and not toooo new!

TAKE a water bottle with you when you run over 7 miles.

Take the water they offer you every time, it will help!

Have fun!

Read a lot of Christine's posts from the blog link I sent you the other day! Honestly, her posts are great because she does running and talks about rest days and such.

Take a water bottle with you!

I think it's great you're training to run a half! I have found a lot of blogs of people that once they run one half, they become addicted. It is on my bucket list! I am so looking forward to seeing how your training/journey plays out :)

Ohhhh I'm so proud and happy for you!!! Running is such a stress relief, unfortunately mine has been put on hold due to my back issues :(.

I wish I had some info on training plans for you!

I have been doing the same thing this Summer! Running a half at some point is a goal of mine, but for now I'm just focusing on a 5k

I freak out with school too. That's why my blogging took a turn for the worse these past 2 semesters. They were definitely the toughest and most eventful I've had.

I figured out that I need to schedule a time to work out daily though. I always feel better and proud after I'm done and then focus on school.

I just started running this spring, too! I've definitely found it to be a great stress reliever. I would totally be lost without it.

While doing a half marathon (and even a full marathon) are on my "future to-do" list, I've already been looking at training plans. Runners World is a great source for training plans. I've also found some great stuff on Active.com also.

Good luck with your training!
