Last Friday I went to Orientation at UGA
and let me start by saying, I hope that isn't a preview of my first day of school.
I got lost.. within a building. But we'll get to that.
First of all, I get there and park in the parking deck and I notice that a whole slew of parents are there walking in with their children. I figured, "Hey! Maybe Freshmen have orientation today too.. I won't worry yet." I had no clue where I was going so I followed all of them into the building and found where I check in.
Come to find out, it was definitely all transfer students there for check-in. And apparently parents were invited to come? Uhhh... I didn't get that memo. For the remainder of the day I pretty much had no one to talk to because everyone was flanked by their mom and dad on each side. That's not really approachable. Just sayin..
I just really don't understand them encouraging you to make friends at orientation when no one leaves their parents sides to talk to anyone.
Then we broke for lunch and they gave us meal tickets for the dining hall. Well you had to get on a bus and ride a few stops to get there (and confession: I've never taken an actual tour of the campus. I was seriously walking these buildings and this area of campus for the first time.) So I got lost. I couldn't find my way out of the building.. and then I couldn't find my way to the bus stop. And on top of this I have a nerdy name tag that just SCREAMS orientation loser, along with 3 folders of information packets and a plastic bag that says ARMY on it that they handed out.
So at that point I just started following random people and their parents around hoping they knew where they were going.. until I felt like a total creeper and just called my mom. I eventually found another girl who was a little goofy.. but we both didn't have parents with us and both were lost. So we managed to find our way around.. I registered for my classes and I'm golden. But WHAT a DAY!!!

Oh and my ID card picture turned out TERRIBLE. I wish there was a way to retake it.. but I really am too cheap to pay 20 bucks for a new one.
HOWEVER, despite my negativity towards the orientation process... I am beyond excited about starting school! Walking the campus multiple times as I was lost made me really excited to be a dawg! I'm currently planning on studying the campus map so I know my way around come August. :)

I"m loving the new header!
I'm sure you'll get the hang of it! I can imagine how chaotic it must have felt!
new header- gorgeous!!
don't worry, being on a big campus is definitely overwhelming at first. but give yourself a week and you'll have it all memorized!!!
reading this makes me want to start a new schools...hmm...second master's at a new school next fall? haha riiiiiiiight
I bet that campus is majorly overwhelming! You'll get the hang of it!! Your new header is stunning!
I wish you luck at UGA (even though I'm still a Georgia SOUTHERN fan, hehe). I decided not to go there because the campus was just WAY too intimidating, so major kudos to you for being able to handle it! I thought GSU was big when I was new and we only have 20,000!!
love it! You will get the hang of it. Love the look! :)
I got completely lost my first week as a freshmen and I had chosen my dorm because I knew how to get to everything from it during orientation! ha, some luck that was!
enjoy your new school!
Sounds like lots of fun! I was also completely overwhelmed with orientation my freshman year, don't worry it's totally normal! Ps, my blog is actually all about college life.. check it out if you get a chance. :) xoxo

UVA is pretty large and it was overwhelming at first but I got used to it! You'll do just fine! I think orientation at every school is just weird and awkward.
Hi! I'm a new follower and loving your blog!
I'm sure UGA is wayyy larger than Ole Miss, but I know that the first few weeks at school I was so nervous that I would get lost and miss my class. But I'm sure you'll get the hang of it!
oh dear...what a day! i'm sure the school year will be better than the orientation :)
Eeek! I'm so excited for you!! Glad you eventually found your way, girl!
