Just Can't Do it.

I cut corners where I can when I'm grocery shopping.
I buy publix brand, or Walmart brand for most products to pinch my pennies. :) and when clothes shopping, clearance racks are my best friend.

HOWEVER, there are a few things that I just can't sacrifice.

1. I'm a coke snob.
      - Pepsi products? absolutely unacceptable. And can we just discuss the hilarious names they come up with for the store-brand cokes? "Mountain Moon Drops" as a Mountain Dew/Mello Yello substitute. Is this for real? Dr. Thunder... and my mind is failing me with the others.. but they're all a good laugh.

2. I'm a lunch meat snob.
-I'm afraid I can't cut corners when it comes to meat. I have to have my Boar's Head sliced at the deli counter. :) (Thinly sliced might I add) The Oscar Meyer pre-packaged deli cuts make me feel queasy, they're so covered in juice. Sick. PLUS, Boar's Head meat just has such great flavor. Cracked Pepper Mill Turkey? Yes, please.

3.  Shredded Cheese
      - This is a new one for me. I've found that Publix brand is okay, but I tried the Walmart brand when I made an appetizer and it destroyed the dish. It just doesn't bubble on top like Kraft brand if you use it on a hot dip. It almost has a plastic texture, and does not make the cut. boom!

 4. Oreos
     - Store brand just isn't the same.

5. Orange Juice.
     - After having Simply Orange, it's just Simply the best. :) So I wait for it to go on the BOGO cycle at Publix and stock up!!! Best Juice EVER. and they're apple is amazing too. Store brand, no go.

Are there any brands that you just can't part with?
Please tell me I'm not the only one!

  2. I am obsessed with Boar's Head. This is so true I will ONLY eat Boar's Head. My fabulous grocery store at home has a huge selection of all Boar's Head. At my college I have to drive to the only grocery that sells Boar's Head its kinda a pain.

  3. Generic Macaroni and Cheese is a no no in my book. I just cant touch the stuff. It isn't the "same". I only buy Kraft! :)

  4. Get out of my head! I feel the same way about everything you mentioned! My heart seriously sinks when a restaurant asks if Pepsi is okay instead of my beloved diet Coke.
And the whole family of Simply juices... delish!
The longest part of my grocery trips are always going to the deli for my Boars Head smoked turkey breast, shaved very thin, thank you very much!
Glad to know I'm not the only one!

  9. This is great! I'm pretty much a Coke snob as well - the only Pepsi product I can handle is Dr Pepper.

Here are my do-not-substitutes: Sunbelt chocolate chip granola bars; Chicken of the Sea tuna/salmon; and Miracle Whip. Oh, but when it comes to brownies I'll make anything, but the Aldi brand is my absolute favorite.

  10. i totally agree... i will not buy store brand cereals and im a big cheese snob... my suggestion is to get the store brand block cheese and shred it yourself. SOOOOO much better.

  11. There are definitely certain food brands I just can't get generic in, so I totally relate!

  12. I do not do anything Pepsi. It's Coke or I go without.
No substitute for deli meat - the prepackaged is slimy.
I buy a lot of Target brand stuff (up & up). The Wegmans brand of Greek yogurt is very good and much cheaper than chobani.
As far as the cheese goes, I buy blocks of cheese and shred it myself. The pre-package shredded cheese contains a lot of fillers and does not melt properly - name brand or store brand. I buy the store brand cheese and shred as needed - perfect!
    Great post!

  14. We are the same person!! I agree with ALL of these!

I am so glad you mentioned how gross packaged deli meats are!! Literally makes my stomach turn.

I LOVE simply orange! No one gets my obsession with this orange juice, but it is absolutely the best. Get outta here with your Minute Maid or Tropicana.

    Such a great post!!

  18. OMG! I'm dying laughing at the card! That is so me! Whenever I'm at a restraunt and ask for a Diet Coke and the waitress asks, "is diet pepsi ok?" and then I say "no" they look at me like I have 3 heads!! Definitely not the same!!

  19. That block velvetta cheese... It must be velvetta! When we make cheese dip nothing melts as good.

  20. SAME! Lunch meat has to be Boar's head and Oreo's.... just aren't the same unless they're the real deal!

  21. I'm a brand snob too, but for mostly health reasons. I don't buy processed meats and cheeses (say no to shredded it cheese!) ever so I'm with you on the sliced deli meats.

And while I don't drink these often, it's always Coke never Pepsi. Same with sweet tea - always Lipton brand.

  22. I'm a horrible grocery shopper-I only shop at Whole Foods and the prices are outrageous! O well...I like to tell myself that it's better for my health. I am totally a coke girl over pepsi too!

  23. I agree with so many of these! I always buy brand name lunch meat, Oreos and always Simply Orange OJ :)

  27. I'm SUCH a brand snob when it comes to groceries. I usually don't care how much money I spend on groceries as long as it's good stuff!
